Details: Product Description TILES is a progressive modern rock band from Detroit, MI. Currently signed to Magna Carta Records in North America, TILES was formed in February 1993 and released their self-titled debut album "tiles" in the spring of 1994. The past seven years have seen the band develop and refine a sound that blends progressive rock overtones with an aggressive hard rock edge. Merged with lyrics of an "observational" or "humanistic" quality, TILES continues to cultivate a sound that demands more than passive listening. Ian Anderson of JETHRO TULL kindly offers his endorsement: "TILES are undoubtedly one of the brighter hopes for the musical millennium! They manage to combine the presentation skills and rich musicality of the Progressive Rock 70's with a hard-edged realism which perfectly fits the turn of the century." TILES reached the international music scene in 1995 when POLYDOR released "tiles" throughout Europe on their Dream Circle Records label. Sales were strong with the help of excellent reviews from Aardschok in the Netherlands (91/100), SCREAM in Norway (6/6), Rock Hard in Germany (8/10), and others. On the opposite side of the world, TEICHIKU Records developed new artwork designs and released "tiles" throughout Japan. BURRN! Magazine rated "tiles" an 88/100 saying "...(tiles is) a wonderful album with a very high level of technique and a great melodic sense..." The disc entered the BURRN! sales chart at #47. Review "...'tiles' contains a blend of elements from symphonic rock, fusion, and hard rock... and creates inventive, intellectual progressive rock." -- Aardschok, Netherlands, January 1995"...Olympic-class musicianship with deft songwriting... muscular riffing, innovative structures and pleasing rhythmic shifts..." -- Progression, June 1995"...technically polished... high quality lyrics... an excellent piece of work. Rock for the gourmet." -- Rock Hard Magazine, Germany, August 1995"...the band's glistening production is some of the best studio work you'll hear on an independent release - a stellar emsemble effort." -- The Detroit Free Press, May 5, 1996"Excellent melodies, intelligent variety..., and exquisite musicality. Recommended without reservation." -- Scream Magazine, Norway, June 1995 From the Artist Chris Herin (guitar, keyboards): "Seven years later I still pull out "tiles" and give it a listen - and I still like it! We continue to play many of the songs live and they hold up quite well." About the Artist The TILES story continues with the release of their second album, "Fence the Clear," in the spring of 1997 - and overseas in Europe & Japan later that fall. Mixed by reknowned producer/engineer Terry Brown (Rush, Fates Warning, Dream Theater, Cutting Crew, and others), "FtC" took on a bigger & heavier sound than "tiles." The disc was again well-received by fans and reviews were positive with "FtC" scoring 94/100 in Aardschok (Netherlands), 5/6 in SCREAM (Norway), again earning HM Magazine's "Pick of the Litter" award, and the Detroit Free Press naming TILES "Detroit's leading progressive rock band." TILES was selected by the editors of HM Magazine to include a song on their "Best of the Pick of the Litter" compilation CD released March 1998. The band was also profiled in the March 1998 issue of Metal Edge Magazine in their "Rock on the Rise" column, and receives regular coverage from the magazine. TILES released their third album "Presents of Mind" worldwide in the summer of 1999. Bolstered by positive reviews, airplay, and strong word-of-mouth, "Presents of Mind" is the band's best selling CD to date - which culminated in an invitation from Dream Theater to open their November 1999 European tour. Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy offers his endorsement of TILES' latest: "I love this CD! The entire disc is full of great musicianship and great songwriting with catchy hooks." Also a fan, DT vocalist James Labrie ranked "Presents of Mind" as his 2nd favorite alb
