Details: Amazon.com A heady blast of nostalgia awaits in G.I. Joe Series 2: Season 2, the final go-round for DIC Entertainment's take on the long-running animated action series. It goes without saying that for many die-hard Joe fans, the DIC version, which ran from 1990 to 1991, pales in comparison with the previous incarnation by Sunbow Entertainment: only a handful of established characters, like General Hawk, Cobra Commander, and Duke, made the leap to the DIC series, which focuses largely on newer characters like Storm Shadow and the arch villain Cesspool. Animation quality, too, is subordinate to the Sunbow Joe, which may remain a stumbling block for many viewers. Despite these issues, the second season of the DIC Joe remains true to the series' core appeal: lots of animated action carried out by an elaborate array of Joe and Cobra characters in high-tension (and increasingly outrageous) scenarios. True, some of the plotlines border on camp, most notably the two-part "Long Live Rock and Roll," in which Cobra uses rock music to turn a skyscraper into a sonic weapon, and "Metal-Head's Reunion," in which the unstable Cobra heel Metal-Head and Captain Grid-Iron discover that they were former high school classmates. For many, these offbeat turns may increase the enjoyment of season two, and they don't detract from more straight-faced efforts like "The Chunnel," which finds the Queen of England in Cobra's clutches, and the ripe "Sludge Factor," which establishes the Joker-esque Cesspool as a brand-new villain. All 20 episodes of season two are included in the three-disc set, which does its best to preserve the lower-quality image and audio of the DIC presentation. A featurette called The Toy Team Remembers, which talks about the 1990-1991 Joe toy line with members of the Hasbro design and development team, is minor but likable. --Paul Gaita Product Description The battle rolls on in the final season of G.I.
